Itinerary

Into the Afar Frontier – Flight to Mekelle & Desert Drive
Day 1:
Fly from Addis Ababa to Mekelle. Upon arrival, drive through the Afar lowlands toward Hamedela. Along the way, meet salt miners and camel caravans transporting blocks across the desert.
Climbing Fire Mountain – Trek to Erta Ale Volcano
Day 2:
Drive to Kursewad and begin your late afternoon trek to the crater of Erta Ale. Experience the rare thrill of standing beside one of the world’s few active lava lakes as it glows at night.
Through the Ash Fields – Return from the Volcano
Day 3:
Early descent from the volcano. After breakfast, return to Hamedela via desert tracks and black lava fields. Rest and prepare for the next day’s adventure.
Salt Worlds & Alien Landscapes – Dallol to Addis
Day 4:
Explore Lake Asale and watch locals extract and shape salt into traditional bars. Continue to the alien world of Dallol, filled with colorful acidic pools and geothermal formations. In the afternoon, drive to Mekelle and take a return flight to Addis Ababa.
Culture & Color – A Day in the Capital
Day 5:
Begin your journey in Addis Ababa, a city known for its unique blend of tradition and modernity. Start at the National Museum to see ancient fossils like “Lucy.” Explore Ethiopia’s cultural roots at the Ethnographic Museum. Feel the buzz of Merkato, one of Africa’s busiest open-air markets. Conclude at the African Union, symbolizing Africa’s unity and progress.
Farewell Ethiopia – Departure
Day 6:
Relax or shop for souvenirs before your airport transfer.
